MSU doctor off to China to provide care for Olympic gymnasts

Michigan State University sports medicine physician Larry Nassar will be on the sidelines as team physician for the U.S. men’s and women’s gymnastics teams at the Olympics in Beijing this summer when this year’s teams are on the floor.

Providing care for Olympic gymnasts for more than 20 years, Nassar easily drops the names of star gymnasts Kerri Strug, Shannon Miller and Dominique Dawes into the conversation.

But despite the gymnastic star power that has been a part of his life for so many years, he never takes his eye off the bottom line. More »

New research led by a Michigan State University scholar refutes commonly held stereotypes that overweight workers are lazier, more emotionally unstable and harder to get along with than their “normal weight” colleagues.

With the findings, employers are urged to guard against the use of weight-based stereotypes when it comes to hiring, promoting or firing. More »

Field of dreams: MSU helps build portable Olympics turf in China

Chinese officials have tapped Michigan State University’s renowned turf scientists to help build a portable athletic field for this summer’s Olympics in Beijing National Stadium.

The MSU team, led by professor John “Trey” Rogers, gained prominence by first introducing portable turf at the 1994 World Cup at the Pontiac Silverdome – the first time World Cup soccer was played indoors. More »
