EAST LANSING Mich. – Former NBA star, U.S. senator and presidential candidate Bill Bradley will share his insight on this year’s presidential election on Friday, Dec. 3, in an event sponsored by Michigan State University’s Institute for Public Policy and Social Research (IPPSR).
Bradley will present “From Center Court to Center Stage” from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in N-100 Business College Complex on North Shaw Lane, west of Bogue Street. The event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required.
Bradley has been a prominent public figure for more than 30 years as an athlete and politician. In 1964, he won an Olympic gold medal in basketball and played for the New York Knicks from 1967 to 1977. From 1978 to 1997 he represented New Jersey in the U.S. Senate, and in 2000 was a democratic presidential candidate.
IPPSR Director Doug Roberts invited Bradley to speak on campus because he believes Bradley will provide insight on this year’s presidential election based on his own experiences as a candidate.
“Sen. Bradley is very knowledgeable,” Roberts said. “The information he provides will be pertinent because he ran an active presidential campaign.”
Bradley will share his observations on the 2004 election and reflect on his own presidential campaign. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask Bradley questions about his life both in and out of elected office.
IPPSR provides expertise to policymakers throughout Michigan by promoting and conducting research on issues of public policy, providing survey research services and policy education, and training programs.
The event is sponsored by IPPSR, underwritten by a grant from the Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation through the efforts of Frances and the late Gerald Faverman.
To register for the event, contact Brian McGrain, IPPSR manager of special projects, at mcgrainb@msu.edu or (517) 355-6672, Ext. 118.
