Agricultural research policy expert Larry Busch and food safety consumer educator Les Bourquin will talk about what research and policy considerations decision-makers must take into account to secure Michigan’s food market.
“Michigan and the International Economy: Food Safety and Security” will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Capitol building, Room 426. The session is free, but pre-registration is required by calling (517) 355-6672.
Busch is an expert on international food and agricultural standards, and the sociological and cultural differences that affect how new technologies are created and received. He will offer a vast perspective on how various societies perceive genetically modified foods and why.
Bourquin works with consumers, the media, government agencies and the food industry on education about food safety issues. He works to improve public understanding of complex food issues such as biotechnology, food irradiation and food-borne illness.
The series is co-sponsored by MSU’s International Studies and Programs and the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research.
